Post How Do You Bet?

Hi punters!
I thought it would be interesting to see generally how people bet, so whats your favourite bet? (win/place, Daily Double, Quaddie, Trifecta, First 4...) Whether it be on dogs, or horses, or both. What do you like about this betting type and do you do anything in this bet order to enhance your chances of winning or to try and juice up the dividend (other than putting on more money of course!)
Do you rarely have any other bet types or do you only ever take this bet? Or is this in fact the bet that you dont frequently take at all but just like to take occasionally?
Do you avoid any bets in particular?

Hey it will be interesting to see what everyone does.

I usually bet only on the win with dogs as a place bet doesnt usually pay too well neither do trifectas and quinella's.

With horse racing i bet e/w and usually go for a horse paying around the 10/mark i use other odds depending what state im in to determine my bet.

Say im in NSW and one horse is paying $4 in vic and $9 in NSW i will usually jump on as its overs in the state.

Harnes i only ever bet on trifecta's i like to go for value with outsiders looking at winning 500-1000, doesnt happen often but when it does

I like to take first fours on the greyhounds and trots. I box the first two favorites for first and second then box the third and fourth favorites for third and fourth. I bet on NSW tab but use the home state tabs as a guide for the favorites. Cost $4 for 100% dividend.

My bets are made usually on the unitab and on the dogs. Majority of the time ill be a win usually $5. The bets i just have to get on are ones where its been picked but the late mail and also by radio tab and are paying more than $2.00. The only other ones i must bet on are the picks for the day they usually pay alright and come in about 70% of the time.

Bets i wont put on are any bets that are paying $1.50 or less. I will not bet on box 6. As i keep a record of all my bets and from what boxes etc. I win. With box 6 i've had 118 bets and won 12 times. which is my worse stat. Below are my win percentages and from which box.

Box 1 74%
Box 2 68%
Box 3 51%
Box 4 62%
Box 5 43%
Box 6 11%
Box 7 47%
Box 8 71%

For years I would take the first 3 in the market for first and second and the other 5 dogs for 3rd.

18 combinations. TRI.
Its not bad but you need to select your races carefully
which is the problem.
If you know the odds on is going to win
its not worth it in that race.

Usually always a mix between tri's and win bets. Trots are my favourite to punt on and l like to look for leader behind the leader type scenarios. These are especially prevelent at tracks such as Moonee Valley, Harold Park and Globe Derby.

Interesting to know considering I don't know a thing about harness racing and never bet on it.

How do I bet? Well within my means and only for enjoyment/entertainment. That is, I am either at the track for a day or night out or I am at a club for much the same reason. On my occasional visits to Wentworth Park I tend to take Quinellas which are, relatively speaking, not too hard to get a collect or more from during the night and with a bit of extra luck, the occasional nice dividend. Nevertheless, it doesn't matter what you do they are taking the 15% or whatever out of the pool which makes it very difficult to finish in front. If I outlay $100 during the night, I am not going to have a nervous breakdown if I lose the lot.
