Coops, fibula problems are one of the common causes for dogs losing form, or running ordinary for a long time, as most mm don't check the fibula very carefully.

There's always a dog racing with an undetected cracked fibula and then one day it breaks a leg.

Always so important to go over the fibula area after each run as it can get tender.

Take it slowly with Bess, Coops, 3 weeks is about right, no earlier, keep on lead and apply bone radiol to the area.

She'll be right as rain.

There's not much you don't know LILY, and here's another example. Thankyou.

What Lily has said makes me wonder about one particular bitch I know well who has gone from potential city class greyhound (she has won at Sandown but only a Weds meeting) to performing very poorly on country tracks. Of course it could be any one or more of a lot of things but I am wondering. Wish I could interfere to at least cross "fibula" off the list but she's not mine so I certainly can't interfere.

Yep could be a problem Yutha mate. I check my own dogs and if I feel that there is something there, I get her checked by Garry Barnsey. I checked her last night and found her to be sore around the hock area, so i took her to Garry and he found the broken fibular. He told me about the 3 week on lead bit and that was confirmed by LILY. he told me that it is common and she should mend easily. I am using Penatrine linament at the moment twice daily, but I see that LILY recommends Bone Radiol.

*blushes* thanks boys ;-)

Coops, Penetrene is only for muscle injuries, so is practically useless on bone injuries.

Actually there is something you can read about those kind of stress fractures and what causes it, how to reduce the severity of the injury etc...check out the link below:

coops penetrine is no good, its for muscle sorness and wont help at all

as lilly suggested bone radial, but it maybe better to use in a week or so as its broken fiubla not just a fracture

make up a brew of blestre and apply every 3 days, after the 3rd time take the dog back to the muscle man and get the fibula checked, if its showing signs of healing then bone raidal will do the job from there, if still needs more another couple of of aplications wont hurt!! The dog wont be happy and you will be in the bad books as the blestre sends them crazy, but it will fix the problem up and he will be up and going before you no it.

best tip if you do youse blistre, keep the dog on a lead and just walk it up and down your back yard for 10-15mins, keep it moving...but it back in the kennel and it will tear the place apart

Thanks Nick. Ok no more penetrine. Bone Radiol as it is a fracture not broken. Checked it this morning after 20 minutes walk and appears to be swelling around the fracture. Will not walk her for a couple of days just an empty out. Don't know wether to keep the Bone Radiol up due to the swelling. Might make it worse.

Leave off the bone radiol until the swelling has gone down, Coops.

Give it a week for Mother Nature to heal by herself, as she is the best ;-)

Where are ya Nick?

Hey mate, seeing that you are all knowlege in the art of breeding greyhounds.
I ave a question for ya.

it looks like my bitch can't run out of sight on a dark night, so I have decieded to breed from her. What do you reckon about putting her to Bush Legend?
She is by Hallucinate X Just Like Alice.

Oh, one other thing. Is it better to let the dog jump her or go for the frozen stuff?

The love of my life, Lilyflowerandroxy says I'm an Idiot. But I forgive her coz she's a woman. Ouch, ouch, stop, I'm sorry my precious.
