AFL Footy Show hosts heckled at Logies
The co-hosts of the Nine Network's AFL Footy Show have complained about being heckled while walking to the podium to collect a Logie award.
The heckling occurred as co-hosts Garry Lyon and James Brayshaw went to collect the show's Logie for most popular sports program at Melbourne's Crown Casino.
The controversy follows an incident on the Footy Show last month, in which presenter Sam Newman groped a mannequin dressed in lingerie and with a picture of the face of AFL writer Caroline Wilson stapled onto its head.
Fallout from the incident has dominated recent episodes of the program.
"I honestly was disappointed a bit with the reaction in the room," Brayshaw told reporters.
"Sam Newman, love him, gets more people to turn on their television and watch than almost anyone since the great Graham Kennedy.
"He walks a fine line and he's a controversial act, but I don't think he deserves disrespect."
Lyon defended his on-air colleague.
"We know where his heart and soul is, and any time he treads over (the line) it's more for the show than anything else."
Newman was not present on Sunday night. He dropped some weights while training and broke four bones in his foot, Brayshaw said.
