Greetings and Salutations
Hi folks,
I am thinking of getting back into the greyhound game in my old age. I was a professional trainer many years ago My last winner was in the early 80's with a dog by Temlee. I never thought I would get the bug again but apparantly it never goes away completly! I am looking forward to getting to know you all. cheers R |

Rollk, sounds like you might be a "senior" like me. Good to have some company. By Temlee ay, that was a while ago but I am thinking you might go back a lot further, not sure. I was thinking of going sort of semi-pro at one time (work for trainer and have my own small team of dogs) in the early 70s. Thank heavens I did not, I would have gone broke fast in that I couldn't train a pig to be dirty.

To be a good trainer you need the facilities, not for example, going through the ridiculous process of arriving at the local park, having identified where the sprinkler heads are, anxiously keeping an eye out as your mate gets a few hundred yards away and hoping that no one turns up with their "mut" either on the lead or worse still running loose. These memories are so vivid. When dogs are young and they have ability they are generally relatively easy to train but as you have indicated, as time goes on, they become harder to train as injuries take their toll. This is where the "cream rises to the surface". When I got my first greyhound, a virtual giveaway ($40), I won a couple of races early on with her and I remember saying to my dad, quite naively, "I think I can now call myself a dog trainer". What "crap", she could have been so much better, no champion that is for sure, but a lot better.

sorry to bring up an old post but i thought it was sweet you let your dog watch tv with you coops. I have only one dog at the moment 2nd on sunday, and i have no facilities just walk and hopefully trial ( or find a trainer soon).
welcome to the greyhounds again rollck. it seams funny me saying that to someone that has 100% more now how about dogs then me. |
