Thumbs up Thompson Enters The Record Books

Thompson enters the record books at Port Macquarie

Monday, 28 July 2008

Robert Thompson has claimed his place among Australian racing legends, breaking through for an unprecedented 3323 career wins in the sixth event at Port Macquarie today aboard Promised.

Brian Garvey-trained Promised sat two lengths behind early leaders Irish Cross and Flying Intent on the rails, before being eased three wide around the home turn, drawing level with Flying Intent before kicking away for a comfortable victory.

The historic win breaks a recent form slump for the Grand Lodge gelding, who hasn't been far off in his last two starts, running a close fourth behind Obeys at Muswellbrook on July 18.

The Cessnock hoop was nonchalant coming into today's meeting, after equaling Jack Thompson's long-standing record yesterday at Scone.

"I really feel proud to have beaten Jack Thompson's record," Robert told the Racing NSW website.

"Jack was a great rider and a great bloke and he helped me a lot during my apprenticeship.

"It is certainly something of a relief to finally go past the record. So many people have been waiting for me to do this and I was starting to wonder if I was ever going to ride another winner.

"I thought I had used up all my luck at the Grafton carnival."

**Must say thats a record you would love to have in your resume. Many have tried but many have failed to get this great accomplishment so well done
