This Saturday’s running of the listed Dequetteville Stakes run over 1100 metres at Adelaide’s Morphettville racecourse sees the appearance of a couple of very interesting runners.
Leading trainer David Hayes will saddle up three good chances in the race with his best chance being the General Nediym filly Bell D’orleans, who was a very impressive last start winner at Morphettville over 1050 metres.
Belle D’orleans overcame a wide barrier and big weight of 58kg to easily defeat the Mark Kavanagh trained Isn’t She Fabulous.
Another main chance in the race is the last start winner Very Discreet trained by Richard Jolly. The beautifully bred filly is by Darley Sire of the Moment Exceed and Excel out of the very smart race mare She’s Discreet, herself a winner of the Group 3 Dermody stks.
Very Discreet was bred by owner/breeder David Peacock and trainer Richard Jolly said the listed Dequetteville Stakes was always the main target for his filly. After a hard fought win at her previous start Jolly hopes to have the filly spot on for the big race. Jolly said his filly has thrived since her win and will improve after her hard fought victory.
Jockey Chad Lever has picked up the ride on Very Discreet after winning jockey Dwayne Dunn will be required for one of Hayes’ three runners.
Another interesting runner which should figure in the finish is the Leon Macdonald trained Impressive Eagle, owned by prominent Adelaide wine identity Wolf Blass who has raced many a good horse over the years, none better than his star filly Dual Group 1 winner Dashing Eagle.
Impressive Eagle was a very unlucky runner up to Very Discreet at her last start coming from well back to just be beaten, and Leon Macdonald and his team have a very good opinion of the daughter of Cox Plate winner Rubiton and are quietly confident there filly can grab the prize.
Others to watch could be Rondanini who ran a nice race last start, and first Starter More Chickens by Zabeel, owned by John Singleton, who won a trial at Strathalbyn in very impressive style.
