Top class three-year-old colt Denman has been retired and will not run in the Group I July Cup at Newmarket in England.

Godolphin’s Simon Crisford made the announcement in England overnight after the horse failed to recover from the travel and therefore “he's not fit enough for the race”.

Denman will return to Australia where he will stand his first season at stud at Darley's Kelvinside stud at a fee of $38,500 (inc.GST).

Denman won nine of his 12 starts and is the best son of former champion galloper Lonhro to have raced with career earnings of $1,227,875.

He won the Group I Golden Rose at Rosehill on August last year.

"Denman was a wonderful racehorse for Sheikh Mohammed, Darley and the racing fans here in Australia last year,” Darley's managing director in Australia Henry Plumptre said. “He will continue the legacy of his father Lonhro who is now a leading stallion and it's wonderful to be standing him."

Meanwhile, another of Darley’s Australian gallopers sent overseas, Time Thief has also been retired and will stand alongside Denman at a fee of $13,750 (inc.GST).

A $2 million yearling, Time Thief won the Listed Zedative Stakes and he was also Group I-placed in the Caulfield Guineas and Australia Stakes.

Got to love anything by LONHRO!

I've got 2 myself and I wish they had Denmans talent. I hope he shapes up to be good sire as well.
