Samantha Miss to go under the hammer

Monday, 30 March 2009

Champion Redoute's Choice filly Samantha Miss is set to join a star-studded cast for this year’s Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Magic Millions boss David Chester confirmed the sidelined star had been entered for the company’s flagship breeding stock sale on the Gold Coast in June.

A $1.5 million purchase from the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale for retired Sydney businessman Ron Croghan, the Kris Lees trained Samantha Miss has been the dominant filly of her generation.

Her record includes three Group I triumphs – the AJC Champagne Stakes, the AJC Flight Stakes and the Crown Oaks.

She also finished a gallant third in the Group One W S Cox Plate.

Samantha Miss has been sidelined because of a tendon injury since her autumn campaign was cut short last month.

Lees said he hoped Samantha Miss could return to racing after stem cell therapy was used to repair the injury.

Change of plans, Samantha Miss will actually be going through the Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale ring next Thursday (April 16).

Champion filly Samantha Miss fetched almost $4 million at the Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale in Sydney on Thursday.

Knocked down media magnate John Singleton through his Magic Millions company acting as agent, the sidelined star went through the sale ring for $3.85 million.

It is expected Samantha Miss will be retired immediately to Singleton’s Strawberry Hill breeding farm.

Dubbed the “princess of the turf” during frenzied bidding, the three-time Group I winner was consigned by her owner Ron Croghan.

Croghan paid $1.5 million for Samantha Miss as a yearling. Her racetrack earnings were close to $1.8 million before her career was interrupted because of injury.

Bidding on the three-year-old started at $1 million.
