Hi guys,

im new to this forum, my mates and i are in Victoria and would love to get involved in Greyhound racing. We would like to buy a pup, and hopefully get it to the track to race.

im looking for any tips you may have about getting started, rearing, breaking in and a good honest trainer in Vic. We would also like advice as to whether its any benefit to by a dog or a bitch, if there is any advantage with one or the other.

any advice would be great

Hey welcome to the forum.

Your in the right place for help, there are many trainers on here who should be able to point you in the right direction.

Depending how much $$ you have buying a well breed bitch is probably the best way to go as you always have the breeding capabilities after her racing career has finished.

Welcome to the forum hawkgunner. Have you thought about buying something that is already racing ? As the risk involved buying a pup it may not have the ability to race. And as you are located in Victoria. I would think you would want to watch it race LIVE on track. Racing is a level up in this state. The National Greyhound Form (paper) comes out Wednesday's is a good place to start. Will give you an idea on what available at what price. Greyhound-data website has alot of greyhounds for sale, always found most overpriced on that website though.

One Tip - If your getting a greyhound already racing, check out the GRV site. On it's form and stewards reports.

Great info.

You can also check Just Greyhounds - Australian Greyhound Stud Dogs / Sires & More they have dogs/bitch's for sale also although you would need to research what you are buying first make sure it is going to win you some races or its not going to be a fun experience if you lose every race.

NGF a bit low on the racers at the moment. Only 2 were in the paper this week and one was unraced.

Hard to find a good quality racer nowadays as i was always told people dont sell champs, you gotta breed em yourself!!

So if you dont find a racer that suits what your after then have a good squizzy at the pups sections - especially on Data.

Can find yourself some nice priced well bred pups. If you give them the best of everything then there is no reason they wont go well unless they simply dont have the motor. But if you have a good look into the lines should be able to pick which ones will throw on.

Good Luck as you and your mates venture into dog racing - Has ups, and plenty of downs.
