Racecallers uk
Whilst contributing to another thread, I went off on a bit of tangent (not uncommon for me I suppose) and specifically about racecallers. I think racecallers of all racing codes are just terrific and as is well recognised, our Australian guys are as good or arguably better than anywhere else in the world. Earlier this year my wife and I were lucky enough to spend a few months in London with our daughter. I would often visit Ladbrokes betting shop in Chiswick only for interest not to bet (I did not have one bet). As most of you would know, dog fields in the UK are only 6 dog fields so I thought this would make it not too hard for the local racecallers. To say the least I was highly amused when in the case of the first dog race I watched, the racecaller referred only to the numbers of the dogs, that is, he only had 6 dogs to call and he called the numbers, not the names of the dogs. It was pathetic. I saw/heard this happen many times but there were certainly plenty of races where the callers did call the actual names of the dogs. I can only think that in the case of those races where they call the numbers only that they are being done from the studio where the announcer is viewing a TV screen. There must be a very good reason. Surely they can't be that pathetic.
