National Grand Final at Wentworth Park
Snozz Strikes In NSW Sprint Title
JASON Mackay’s Snozz has overcome box eight to take out tonight’s NSW State Final at of the Rapidvite National Spint Championship at Wentworth Park in a smart 30.12. Snozz , the youngest in the quality field, began very smartly and was able to cross to the lead at the first turn and outpaced the very talented Mountain Of Love to the back straight. From there, Mountain Of Love had his chance to reel Snozz in but he went down by 1 1/2 lengths while Hendrix battled on to finish third, a further 1 1/4 lengths away. The race became a procession from the first turn with such an evenly matched line-up engaged and which ever dog got the breaks was going to win. Snozz, in the end, made his down luck and is now well drawn in the National Final. The box draw is: 1 Light Ice Lad (Tas), 2 Snozz (NSW), 3 Mogambo (Vic), 4 All Caution (Vic), 5 Knocka Norris (Qld), 6 Mountain Of Lover (NSW), 7 Drink Driver (SA), 8 West On Paris (WA). Hendrix and Branded are the reserves. Though the meeting Light Ice Lad, Knocka Norris, Drink Driver, Mogambo and West On Paris each trialled solo in preparation for the $50,000 to the winnet final. Mogambo posted very smart sections on the way to registering 30.03, Knocka Norris carved out 29.82, Drink Driver posted 30.39, West On Paris 30.61 while Light Ice Lad, after cramping in the latter stages, registered a steady 30.89. Miagi Primed For Distance Title TRACK record holder Miagi has overcome the awkward five alley to secure tonight’s NSW State Final at of the Rapidvite National Distance Championship at Wentworth Park. The brilliant stayer has been dogged by injuries throughout his spectacular career and was having only his third start following a five month break when he accounted for Risk It and Lyn’s Daisy in a smart 42.51. After a moderate getaway from box five, Miagi was only fifth in the early stages but dived to the rails before the first turn had only kennelmate Calhoun Park ahead of him at the 520m boxes the first time. Before the winning post, he wrested the lead, shot clear and the contest was as good as in the record books. He was untroubled to score by 4-1/4 lengths while Lyn’s Daisy’s late burst of saw her miss second place – and a position in next Saturday’s National Final – by a mere three quarters of a length. The box draw for the National Distance Championship is: 1 Risk It, 2 Token Ned, 3 Mantra Lad, 4 Tayza, 5 Rebel Angel, 6 Fallen Zorro, 7 Nicely Done, 8 Miagi. Lynn’s Daisy and My Son Rules are the reserves. Earlier in the night a number of the interstate contender trialled (solo) and with Tayza (WA) registering 42.76, Nicely Done (Qld) 42.99 and Fallen Zorro (Tas) 42.67 while Victorian Rebel Angel registered a fast 30.01 over 520m. |

Like Father Like Son
Reg Kay has four race dogs in his boutique, but elite kennel. Three of them are group one winners, the only one which isn’t is Knocka Norris, one of the favourites for the Rapidvite National Sprint Grand Final at Wentworth Park. The champion Queensland mentor is hoping his multiple track record holder can correct this discrepancy on Saturday night. To make things easier for Knocka Norris, Victorian sprinter Mogambo has been scratched from the final after tearing his quad muscle. Disappointed Trainer Jamie Ennis confirmed the injury a short time ago and said the star sprinter will be out of racing for up to a month. From the first day the Knocka Norris stepped onto a race track, Kay knew he had something special. “He’s the fastest dog I’ve ever trained,” declared Kay. But while his kennel mates have all won at the highest level, luck has seemed to have deserted Knocka in the features. Knocka Norris is the son of the 2003 National Sprint Title winner, Elite State, which was also trained by Kay. “Elite State was different, the complete package, he won 26 out of 30 and two group ones,” said Kay. But Kay did have a warning for his competitors on Saturday night. “He might be putting it together, he just needs a clear run. “He’s not a bad canine athlete, that’s for sure.” Last Saturday night at Wentworth Park, Knocka Norris trialled by far the quickest of the interstate greyhounds, running a sizzling 29.82 for the 520 metres. “His early section was a bit steady, he’ll just need luck and not be touched in the run to the first turn,” Kay said. Kay has had tremendous success all over the country this year, but especially at Wentworth Park where Knocka Norris’ litter sister, Elite Oriental took out the group one National futurity in February. A refurbished Wentworth Park will host the Grand Finals of the Rapidvite National Sprint and Distance Championships are worth $50,000 to the winner on Saturday night. In addition to the great racing, the NSW GBOTA have thrown open the gates with free admission for everybody. The first race will start at 7.30. |
