Default Miagi

Miagi Back On Track

MIAGI, ranked as Australia's best stayer until suffering a serious injury, continued his comeback campaign with a successful trial up the straight at Appin on Tuesday.

Miagi covered the 366m in the fair time of 21.40sec, figures not good enough to win a top grade sprint there but which satisfied trainer Warren Harper.

``He had never been out of the starting boxes behind the drag lure on a straight track before,'' Warren told The Dogs.

``So we were happy with his run.

``A lot of dogs trialled faster than Miagi on Tuesday, but then again, there were many which went slower, too.

``He pulled up sound which was all we were concerned about.''

Great to hear. Hope he continues to recover and won't be far away from the race tracks soon.

No doubt Miagi fully fit is the best stayer in the country. Elektra who won the Galaxy in W.A is now struggling and will not race outside Western Australia. Gunnadoo Magic is struggling. Fallen Zorro has stepped up a notch and along with her brother Chinatown lad are very consistant but they cannot run the sectionals that a fully fit Miagi can run. Miagi's full sister Daphne Mavis has also won several distance races along with their full brother Jekyll.

Default Miagi Ready For Nationals

MIAGI will go into this Saturday night's heats of the Rapidvite National Distance Championship with a light preparation, but he is ready.

The dog trialled over 618m at Richmond last Wednesday and posted a slick 35.80sec.

``That is a smart time but the run was even better than it looks on paper,'' trainer Warren Harper said this week.

``Miagi became stirred up by the previous trial and went up in the air with the lids.

``I'm not sure if he got caught in the boxes or what, but a couple of other trainers who watched the trial reckon the mishap cost him four tenths of a second.''
