Default Mantra lad

How about Mantra Lad trialling 39.97 at the Meadows over the 600. What a run. Of course there might be a difference in the track between a trial morning and race day but I certainly know of very good dogs (I mean very good) who can trial only 34.50. Mantra is a mighty dog and although I know the process would have been carried out properly, I find it difficult to understand how he did not make the final 3 in the Victorian Greyhound of the Year Award. Mantra could "pick up Regal Thyme and carry him", there is a significant difference in class between the two dogs. I hope he stays sound. This is one stayer who could very well succeed at stud and of course due to the fact that he is also extremely competitive against the best sprinters.

Yutha mate, my goat Jimmy ran that time over 600mm yesterday. Now thats quick even for him.

Wasn't it mantra Lad who got mongreled by another dog not that long ago?

Coops I think you are thinking of Miagi (trained by Warren Harper on the Central Coast of NSW) who was attacked by a stray mut as dog and trainer were leaving the vets. This happened quite some time ago (18 months ?????). Mantra Lad has been out injured, with a dewclaw related problem (bone I think?/?).

By the way Coops, if you want to arrange a match race between Mantra and Jimmy over 600 on a flat surface, I would be interested in putting putting $50,000 on Mantra at even money. However, I fear that Jimmy may use his head in more ways than one in taking advantage at the start.

Smile Go the Thyme's

Hi guys,

Just on your comments about Regal Thyme. He really should be given the top gun (what a joke this has not been resolved yet, it's really a no brainer. For GRV to not have it sorted before the announcement of the GOTY is a disgrace but that's another story). If he ends up getting the top gun that means that he would have won two group 1's & one group 3 for the year. No other VIC dog, not even El Galo won two group 1's (if loses top gun). To put it in perspective the equivalent races in horse racing is winning the Guineas & Cox Plate so I think he well & truly deserves his spot in the final 3. I admit that on their day, dogs like El Galo & Mantra Lad are faster dogs than Regal Thyme but he performed in some big races when it mattered.

Although I don't like his chances in the Temlee, I would love to see Regal Thyme take it out

Cheers

Yeah, whats the go with this swab? Its either + or -!!!!! Really is a bit of a circus and embarrassing for the sport! I can't imagine that there have been stewards and the like full time on this matter since the + was returned!! It would be costing the industry an absolute fortune in wages, lab tests, legal, etc.

Yutha mate, I've started Jimmy in training this morning. I gave him some extra oats this morning.Tomorrow I'll trial him over the 650mm and see how he goes. So watch out mate, Jimmy is coming.

Like The Thyme mate, you say that you admit that on their day, dogs like El Galo and Mantra Lad are faster dogs than Regal Thyme. "Mate they are fast all the time."

Gippy, although I did know that there was a deferment granted, I was also wondering when the case was going to be heard. On 14 January the GRV granted a deferment until 17 February, that is, the case will be re-visited next Tuesday.

Coops, has Jimmy been in work? The only reason I ask is that I thought a 650 might be a bit much first up, especially in that the match-race would be over only 600. However, maybe this is a reflection of your supreme confidence.

Getting a bit worried are ya mate.
Hey Yutha, I am the proud owner of one of them Ultrasonic massage machines. I bought it this morning and I showed the dog it and He freaked and bolted back in his kennel.
Can't wait to try it on him. Hope he don't bite me.
