Worming Info Please
Hey just wanted to know any information anyone has on worming, getting worms, effects, treatment, products etc.
I ask for a few reasons.. Firstly I buy the tablets from my pet food store and it does say on the box every 3 months the tablets are around $1-$2 each. Then Ive seen in Vets they have worming tables up to $20 for a dog.. Why such a price difference? Anyway I was worming maybe once every two months but Ive found my pup has worm looking things in his poo after just one month after worming him.. Any suggestions comments would be helpful thanks |

A certain amount of price can be traced back to brand names, however in large it is due to the different chemical that is used to treat/ kill the worms.
It is recommended by some that you change up the worming tablets that you use as like other things what may be effective for a while may not continue to be effective over the long term. I imagine that the $1 tablets you use are the closasole tablets, I have heard conflicting opinions on the quality of these (most come from reps of more expensive products), however if you are having a problem with worms then it might be worth investing in a more expensive tablet and seeing if you get a different result. btw what type of meat are you feeding? the worms have to be getting into your dogs someway if they have them? also they normally are excreted when they are dead so I would imagine you would really see them soon after you have given the worming tablets.

Thanks for your response I am feeding my racers Roo mince as their main source, while Ive been feeding my pup beef. Ill soon be changing from the beef to roo with my pup once he starts racing. I do this because how many roos do you know get knocked up with steroids or get needled when they are sick... none. Where as with the beef you dont really know whats in the meat. I have no idea how he could have got them in the first place, I know very little on the subject as you can imagine.
I noticed today there were a large amount of worm like things in his poo I gave him the tablets yesterday.. I can only assume they have been killed and are being flushed out. Do you know how this will effect his performance etc in the next few days or even if he will have some sort of deficiency in something? |

I will check tomorrow but I would agree with duffer, Ambex is probably the same as closasole. Also seeing as how you feed roo that would be where you are getting the worms from, being a wild animal, they do carry worms. Beef I would think still does but definitely not to the same extent.

Ambex is slightly better than Closasole, but I've used All Wormer, Paratak (vet recommended) mostly. Ambex and closasole does have the same basic ingredients but they differ a tiny bit in some, which suggests why Ambex works a bit better than closasole anyway.

lilyflower, i've had very good result's using a product called;panacur 2.5,at the rate of 1ml per 10kg of bodyweight & using scolaban to treat tapeworm seperatley is the most effective method.try to worm every 6-8 week's routinely & you should have worm free dog's. remember to bath weekly to stop flea's from breeding & hatching egg's,( a cause of tape worm), & if in doubt about visit your vet for a blood & faeces check to determine the "amount" of worm's they have. see yah, daryl.
