Sore Wrist.
Hi guys, Only new too the forum so "Hello".
I have this topic on another site, yet with no real helpful replies so i thought i would ask here. I have a dog, only 11 starts with a few wins and placings. Yet in recent times has come up with sorenes in his offside wrist. My checker, local too londonderry who everybody uses has advised me this is normal. Due too the fact that most strain is on the offside wrist (which i was totally unaware of i assumed it was the onside), but he explained the funadmentals off accelleration and corners too me and why the offside wrist sustained more pressue. Yet too put my querie simple. He said, just give the dog 2 fish oil tablets a day, Blistre it with odzon 3 days straight before a race and if soreness continues, than continue the same process for the next week. I did, the dog has raced well (last 4 starts for a win, a fall and 2 3rds) yet the last week his soreness is worse than ever. I've scratched him from this weekend, and i am going to quakers hill vet for x-rays early next week too get a second opinion. I just want too know is soreness too the offside wrist a comment complaint for racing greyhounds. Also is the advice given too me by my muscle man, the correct process or have i made a mistake along the lines. Just curios as too peoples opinions or experience with the matter. Kind regards Mr Monkey |

In my opinion NO soreness is normal!!! Your doing thr right thing going to see a vet, just make sure the actual vet you see is RACING greyhound vet not a kitten and rabbit vet!!! In Vic we are lucky as we have plenty of Greyhound Only vets who know their shit!! Sounds like the dog has plenty of ability so good luck with it!

The point off your post???
My muscle man is a vet. i reckon more than 50 percent off the industry in NSW would you use him.. I only asked any opinion too do with the problem and im already getting a second opinion. "You can't understand why trainers don't go to the vet in the first place, well i can't understand why people reply to threads which they know wont help the end result at all lol" |

mr moneky,
do you use bone radial? might be something to look at as i dont think there is a withholding period and can be applied dailly It is really good on wrists and has been used on one of mine with very dicky wrists |

I have in the past with results on metacarpal problems, didnt think to use it on the wrist. I have been using odzon atm, but with no real obvious success.
Maybe switching back to bone radiaol is an idea, but the smell LOL... Thanx Nickg |

Yeah good point Nick!! I used to put it on the young dogs after they started trialling around the circle just incase of soreness, that or even penetrene massaged in for a few days after each run/trial couldn't hurt! Ideally you would try and only trial him up the straight until the wrists toughen up a bit!

bone radial is good also the chinese stuff cant think of the spelling of it now very good but the dog deffo needs time off it wont get better running him
fish tables will do f all for it id also strap it for a bit including when you start him back for a bit before he is track ready for me he would be out for 4-8 weeks min
