Use Debrisol (wound spray), it keeps flies off as well. Do you also have Betadine spray? that's also handy for wounds.

If your dog has fleas, bathe him in Malawash, and wash out whole kennel in malawash, use new bedding as well.
No dogs should have a flea problem if the whole kennel has been kept clean and dogs bathed regularly. A lot of big farms use the Confidor product which is like front line, should work.

To kill fleas on dog straight away use capstar..u can buy it from supermarket or vet..u can give them one everyday..then put revolution on them..excellent product..but unless u treat the enviroment as well then the fleas will always be a problem..

in the hours just after sunrise
a dog awakens to realize
that the fleas he had
have all turned flies
like five or six times
their original size
the dog opens his mouth
in an effort to cry

Allisa, mustard oil and don't let him lick it??? Stop dog from licking ????? Huge leather muzzle maybe???, I am sure the dog would love that, maybe as much as the flies, and of course the dog could get the added bonus of getting it into his/her eyes. I think I might be taking it serious when I am supposed to view it as humour. My solution, let the dogs stay in the house during the day, they love it and then at night put them back in the outside kennels and listen to them complain about not being in the house LOL. Those flies are bastards of things, biting the dogs' ears etc, what a mess they make and how dreadful for the poor dogs. Seriously, MINT plants are supposed to keep flies away. Surprisingly in my country NSW location I have not had a lot of trouble over many years with flies bothering the dogs, not sure why ????? It was in Sydney where I recall them being very bad and vicious. I always had MINT around my kennels in country location but I can't assume that this is the reason the flies were not a big problem.

I'm lucky at my place. The flies don't bother the dogs coz the flies prefer the horses.

Do you know what Coops, your most recent post has made me realise why the dogs over all those years did not have much trouble with the flies. The flies were all around me. My wife is always carrying on about how many flies I have on my back when we are out walking. I can't help it if I am popular, she is as usual just jealous that I am a "people (and fly) person".
