RIP Darren Tyquin
Aussie racecaller killed in New Zealand

Melbourne born racecaller Darren Tyquin has been killed in a car accident in New Zealand overnight.
New Zealand police confirmed, Tyquin 41, was driving to his home from Christchurch in the early hours of this morning when it is believed his car failed to take a corner and he died at the scene of the accident at approximately 1am.
Also travelling with Tyquin was Kiwi jockey Patrick Holmes who was taken to a Christchurch Hospital and has since been released with what were described as moderate injuries.
Tyquin moved to New Zealand in 1999 where he was racecaller for all TRAC race meetings and he remained there until taking over from the voice of New Zealand racing, Reon Murtha at Canterbury in 2006.
Tyquin's race calling career that stretched back to 1982 when he began work with the then Victoria's leading race broadcaster, 3UZ.
He also spent time, Tasmania, as the Chief racecaller for TVT6.
During his two years there, he called all thoroughbred, harness and greyhound races for local television, conducted racing interviews, hosted the Sunday Racing Review and covered local sport for the 6pm News.
He returned to Victoria in 1987 and until 1995 continued greyhound race calling duties.
