Default For My Sons

Hi,
Just wondering if anyone could help me out, my sons josh & jake had been promised a pup that they could raise & race by my now ex, he has decided he will no longer honour his promise to these broken hearted boys as they are not his kids nor his problem. Does anyone have an animal that they would be willing to let them have hopefully if possible for free or as cheap as possible. The boys are 13 & 11 and will have help & of course i hope advise from any members in the forum if they get a dog. I want my sons to experience greyhound racing as the top sport that it is not something that cruel, lazy & heartless people that have no idea do. Many thanks Jen.

Hey Jen,

My advice would be to regularly check the forum as we often have members giving away dogs that are not up to the standards of the owner. As a giveaway you are not likely to have a city winner on your hands although it would be a great way to get them started.

I should have mentioned we are in the country anyway so a non city class is quite suitable. Thanks for the advice, it's greatly appreciated.

Hi Jen,

Do you regularly go to the racetracks? Keep in touch and speak to experienced greyhound owners/trainers? That would also be the best place to learn rather than take advice 100% from people on the forum, as it is hard to suggest things without seeing the greyhound in the flesh.
Are your boys familiar with greyhounds? Was your ex a greyhound trainer? Just checking the degree of experience that you have ;-)

Best of luck!

Hi Lil,
I have seen quite a bit of racing over the last 6 years & was exposed to my ex (wanna be trainer) & his (shouldn't be trainer) son, who i would do the total opposite from, but i have met a lot of really nice dog people who all have their own little bits of knowledge to impart to willing listeners so i have gleaned a good bit of information to refer to. My sons have also handled dogs a fair bit over this time & their school is running a greyhound training session in sport time every week, i want my sons to see that having racing dogs can be a good experience not an awful stressful time, my sons & myself stopped going to meetings with my ex's son rather quickly due to his attitude & mistreatment of his animals, which i so wish i could prove to those in power.

Hi Jen, sounds like you did the right thing in getting rid of your ex

Hey actually I have mates who help run the greyhound handling/info classes during sports day at Cowra high school.. I wonder if it's the same school your boys go to (you don't have to answer that Jen, can pm me instead lol)

Hopefully there should be someone local to you who could give your boys a greyhound to start off with, at least that way you don't have to organise transport for one from further afield.

cheers
