Re-Kennelling of Greyhounds

GHRRA PRESS RELEASE

RE-KENNELLING OF GREYHOUNDS FOR AT LEAST ONE RACE

The Authority has adopted a resolution of the Animal Welfare Committee to amend the current Policy regarding the kennelling of Greyhounds for at least one race.

The amendment now requires that Greyhounds engaged in the last event at any Race Meeting be rekennelled for 15 minutes following the last event.

The Policy reads as follows:

“All Greyhounds competing at a Race Meeting are to be rekennelled for at least one event after they compete, or for 15 minutes after the last event at the meeting, so they are sufficiently calmed, cooled and watered prior to leaving the course”.

This Policy will be effective 17 November, 2008.

After bringing in some not so great rules recently such as the microchipping and hormones change i feel this is a very good rule and should be inbraced by trainers etc.

I was under the impression that we were doing that already. The meetings that I have been to since training and racing my dog, they won't let you take the dog out of the kennels untill the end of the following race. Tell me if I'm was missing something here.

Maybe that was a rule at your local club although some clubs where allowing dogs to leave almost immediately after a race.

Coops the above ruling is relevant for the last race on the program, as the other rules states after the next race - but obviously for the last, there is no following race, so have set a 15 minute guideline to it.

Ok guys thats fair enough.

Does the same rule apply when you have trialled your dog at the trial tracks?

TheChook 11-07-2008 06:00 PM

Nope as there are no stewards.

So the Animal Welfare Committee have no control over trial tracks then?

I wouldnt say it was useless, although trainers should be practicing this after a race anyways.
