Is This the Accepted Way Some Breeders Keep Their Dogs?

.
I'm (still..... LOL!) considering buying a greyhound pup to raise and hopefully race.

A mate of mine told me about a neighbour of his who has several greyhounds locked in tiny cages all the time under a completely covered in carport. The cages are about 1.2m cubed.

The only times they are let out is to sniff around the backyard for a few minutes occasionally (the owner apparently spends this time yelling at them: "Go to the toilet!"), or to be put on the walking machine.

My mate insists that these dogs are never, I repeat, NEVER walked other than on the machine!

Surely this isn't normal?
I certainly won't be treating my hound that way!

No this is not normal and that guy sounds like an evil piece of s**t! You should report him!

Most trainers and owners keep their dogs in yards usually fenced off with a shed for sleeping and racing lines for them to get used to running up and down in straight lines. Most big trainers and owners keep them on farms where the dogs love it!

Breeders wont use lines instead they will just keep their stud or brood bitch however they choose. Backyard, inside, outside, farm... whatever, breeders come in all shapes and sizes and so do their lots.

My good friend that breeds has built an actual room into the back of his shed with timber, skylights, insulation and all, he layed a small 3x3 concrete slab and decked it out with dog blankets. The dog has his entire back yard to roam in all day and she basically gets treated like a pet and by that I mean she sits around the barbie when we are cracking tinnies and eating snags so, yeah...

I know of another stud owner that also have his dog an actual room in his very own home! I wont say who it is but lets just say this guy was getting 3k per straw!

Thanks goindeep.
I think I may just do that!

I'm thinking about contacting the Greyhound Racing Association, RSPCA and maybe the Local Council too.
I'm sure my mate said that this same guy got into trouble for something related to the Staffys he used to breed/sell years ago.
I need to check on the details first.

Thanks!

Also, I called them lines, I meant to say 'Runs' lol.

He could be selling them to Makao or to the Koreans too.

In any case, dogs need to be treated well.

I've been over and peeked through the front of the enclosed carport.
It's true, they are in tiny cages!

I think the RSPCA rules state that they need shade, water and to have like 4 meters for walking or pacing. I would check with them, this guy sounds like a total douche and even if he isn't selling them off to China or Korea then they will be absolutely useless racing locally, what a tool!
