OCD in Greyhounds
Hello,
i was just wondering if there was anyone out there who has any knowledge about ocd in greyhounds. i have a pup which has it in his shoulder and needs surgery to fix it. all i want to know is if anyone knows of any dogs that have had this problem and if so how does it affect there racing career afterwards. Regards Paul. |
Nasty choppa mate. I have not heard of anyone with the problem you've got with your dog. But the Internet says that 90% of dogs recover from it if the surgery is done correctly. Although it does not say any of that 90% is greyhounds. Your vet would have the best advise mate. I wish you all the good luck mate.

Others might have a more positive experience and be able to reply to your posts with some happy news, however unfortunately from what I have witnessed in some dogs with OCD, the prognosis isn't very good at all.
Most of the cases I had seen, (having worked as a vet assistant) never made it to the racetrack, or either raced for a short while but had to be retired due to chronic unsoundness and pain. Hope you have better luck, who knows, with the advances in technology these days, a cure could be possible. |
Thanks guy's for yor comments. I have since been in contact with vets and have been advised against racing after this type of operation. So I will be trying to get him a good home because he is a beautifull dogand he will make a good pet. Unfortuantly for me I lose money but that's racing. Cheers.
