Quantity of Meat
how much beef to a greyhound weight of 35 kg? Per meal and every day?
|
About a pound
|
650grams
|
There are no hard and fast rules. All greyhounds are different, you feed them the amount depending on how hard you work them. If they are resting you feed them less and if in hard work feed them more.
I have four dogs each weighing 28.6kg, 33.2kg, 34.6kg and 32.8kg. The first dog puts on weight easily so he is fed 520gms meat and maintains his weight no problems. The 33.2kg dog has a higher metabolic rate so therefore burns fat a lot quicker, he gets 600gms meat. The 34.6kg dog loses weight easily so he gets 650gms meat. The 32.8kg dog puts on too much weight too quickly so he gets 500gms meat. When I step them up in distance and therefore they get more hard work in, their meat will increase. |

What have you got Murray, a whippet?::D coops |
shhh he did say he feeds them horse meat aswell, thats when i relised he isnt a greyhound trainers asshole..cause only the cheapest tightest un educated people feed horse meat knowing its horse meat
|
Coops, it of course depends on what else is being fed with the beef BUT overall I say "well said", I have to admit to being rather surprised (to say the least) when I saw the advice of "a pound" for a 35kg dog (the RSPCA should be called in). A pound of beef supplemented by 4 ozs of dry kibble (evening meal) would generally be sufficient for an extremely small bitch (yeh like a whippet), not a 35kg dog. The advice from Lily... and Nick is pretty good.
|
A pound of meat i said. Then mix in a pound of chicken with it, then your kibble, water etc....
Nickg your obviously a very naive uneducated sh!thouse trainer otherwise you would know horse meat is just as good if not better than beef. Learn the facts before shooting your mouth off. Your a know body trainer! Wait til you get in with the big boys of McDonald, Bate, Thompson then try feeding me your BS :) |
35kg is about 77lb i think
for that i would be giving 1 and half pound of beef a day and total weight of filled pan would be 3.5lb for a dog that big at least all my dog get 1.5lb of either beef/chicken/tripe each day with veg kibble added to bring it up to weight bitches get just over the 3 lb |
as for horse meat nothing wrong with it at all
in fact it use to be eaten by humans and still is in many parts of the world as for the facts Horse meat contains 25% less fat, nearly 20% less sodium, double the iron and less cholesterol than high quality beef cuts, and when compared to ground beef 25% less fat, 30% less cholesterol and 27% less sodium |
Here in Portugal horse meat is very expensive and rare. So I am giving beef.
I am giving morning ration of high quality (Eukanuba Performace) evening I mass with oats and soybeans and 200g of meat. |

I DONT PERSONALLY use horse just because beef is ready available for me
dont know if i could get it anyway i dont ever give nuts(kibble) in the mornings but whatever works for you |
Albeit several decades ago, my experience with feeding horse meat in Australia was not a good experience. The horse meat turned out to be poor quality. In fact, problems e.g. salmonella, caused by me feeding horse meat still trouble me today, bad memories. Unless, I was very confident about the sourcing, processing, handling and transport of the horse meat, I would not use horse meat in Australia. However, I suppose I need to be just as confident about any beef that I used. Sorry, Ricardo, I tend to think that you have become secondary with regard to this topic, in that, it has turned into a debate rather than advising you. You're the one in Portugal, just make sure whatever you get is of good quality, that is, safe. And as for Byron Bet advising you to use "a pound" without qualifying with additional advice about supplementing it with the use of chicken, well "please.......".

I use horse meat sometimes, but only when one of the trotters don't measure up to my liking. One of them is quite nervous at the moment.

You really know how to take the piss out of some one Nick.
Murray's alright, he's a bit slow but he's learning about what life is about. I'm starting to get used to him coz he's so straight forward and caring and loving. Oh Murray, what are we going to do with you mate. Do you want a chocolate ice cream mate. Hey Nick mate, don't get him mad or he'll leave you out of his will. He's headed for the big time with his bought tips. he made a killing last weekend with 8 winners out of ten bets, and all payed big dividends. PS I love ya Murray. XXX coops |

A lot of Victorian trainers feed either beef or chicken (mostly chicken as it's cheaper) whereas in country NSW you'd find most feed either beef (as it's easily accessible) or roo (which is more common). Both these meat are around the $4.50 per kg so are not cheap. Roo is more expensive than beef. You cannot go around telling people that if they feed chicken or roo or horse, that they are shit trainers, because who do you think you are to say that? Many top trainers in my area feed roo and they've had more winners you could poke a stick at. So they must be doing something right. Personally I prefer beef but after being scared once by a bad batch (all dogs got scours, needed veterinary treatment to recover) a few months ago, I was recommended to switch to roo meat for the time being. Even though it's $4.50 per kg, I am now happy as the dogs seem to be thriving on it, running more consistently and no problems with their poo's either. They also maintain their weight very well. To add fat to the lean roo meat, sometimes I buy fresh chicken mince to mix with the roo at a ratio of 70% roo 30% chicken every few days for a change. Or either buy a block of lard and put a couple of spoonfuls on top of their feed, the dogs go absolutely crazy as lard is one of their favourite treat. I know Graeme Bates feed chicken and bread only, which is surprising as his dogs are performing so well. I suppose he adds the necessary vitamins (iron etc) to the feed to make up for the shortfalls of feeding white meat. |

LOL YOUR HILARIOUS NICK! Really got me in a good mood reading this this morning :D:D:D I really feel sorry for you, lol so naive and immature. First of all of course you feed chicken mince! Most trainers do. Secondly of course you feed it to rearing pups is good, they need a bit of fat in them. Horse meat is good meat and is the base ingredient for alot of trainers. But sorry we must all be wrong because some no hoper on a racing forum says its wrong. LOL. Who are you to decide whats wrong and right? The fact that you had to revert to abusive language shows your complete immaturity and lack to learn new things thats why you will never be a respected trainer. Swallow your pride and take on what other people say and dont shoot them down because odds are they are doing better than you. Hope you change your tune for your sake. |

NOPE YOUR STILL A WANKER!!!!!! i do listen to respected people, but you are not one of them. im just waiting for you to shoot your mouth off about dogs you have trained or been involved in... END OF THE DAY YOUR WANKER AND YOUR YET TO PROVE ME WRONG |
Come on, grow up nick. Your way isn't the only way. All this abuse over him using horse meat (Which half the trainers out there use). Dont be so aggressive just because its online.
|
ok ok ill do it
im sorry murray for calling you a wanker and abusing you will you forgive me murray? and we can start fresh |
Nick and Murray, I am not a qualified councellor and it may be a bit presumptious of me to conclude that this is a case of "too much damage" has occurred. Realistically, I think the two of you should aim for displaying mutual respect for each other even if you do not really mean it. I think a second opinion from Dr Coops would be advisable.
