Food

HELLO, I'm Portuguese and I greyhounds competing in Portugal. I wonder what the best food (the best ingredients) for a greyhound's sprinter (200 to run here 250metros)?
From the moment I am giving the dog food from Eukanuba Jogging Performace platium.
Many Thanks

Raw beef or horse meat. Muti-vitamin tablet. Thats it. We have some of the fastest greyhounds in the world and thats what we feed them.

For a fast sprinter, that kibble is exactly what you need. Do you also give raw meat with it? I don't know your country's legal requirments for meat but if you think there might be any bacteria/worms risk in the meat, you can simply feed a complete premium dry food without meat. The main thing is to feed an high energy diet.

If your dog looks and races well on the kibble you are feeding, then stick with it, you must be doing something right.

cheers

In my country there is no rule of law. My friends give ground chicken with pasta, but I think that beef is better because it has creatine. So I would like to know the opinion of experts because they say that a greyhound racing sprinter has a Power supply of a greyhound that runs more distance.

You have to use a mixture of chicken with either horse or beef. Mix that with bread or good quality kibble and water. Then add your vitamins

blood

What is the best blood for the races in Portugal? of coursing greyhounds or track? (200 to 250m distance in a straight line).

I never said i disagreed with it did i? All i said was its different, which it is. Most trainers i know feed consistant meals of the same food most nights. Usually Chicken mince, horse mince, kibble, vegies, water and viatamins. Then once a week just bread and milk with viatamins to get there hydration up.

How many dogs do you have and how did you come up with the diet? Im just curious.

ByronBet 10-14-2009 07:30 PM

Whats the tea do mate?

noelkeane 10-15-2009 08:31 AM

gippy if you can run then yes no problem lol lol

coops me bud hows it swinging

ByronBet

first off sorry just read my post and it comes across harsh not mean to so again sorry about that

how many dogs
running ---- 9
breaking in --------4
pups 11 at five weeks
saplains 6 from two litters 8 months and 10 months

three broods

the diet came about over time using my fathers and grandfathers method and adding my knowlage of food(i have been a chef for 18 years ) and spent alot of that time cooking for sports teams and athlets

at present in the kennels there is one open class sprinter
one stayer (750 yards)
one open class standard distance dog(525 here)
one a2 bitch lightly raced and not fully ft and a bit over weigh she is bound for a brood so wont be over raced or weight taken off
another bitch who is a3 but will go to at least a1 if not open
one who will run his first race this saturday night
of the four breaking in one dog will be open class two bitches mmmmm
ans another bitch who wont race just be broken down(season)and will be breed so prob wont ever race
hope this answers some of your questions

any more just ask away

coops 10-15-2009 07:08 PM

Noel, you have no problem with breeding from unraced bitches as long as they have good breeding?

coops

noelkeane 10-15-2009 10:25 PM

well bred from a dam that has thrown and have litter mates THAT are open class then yes i have no problem breeding from them but they MUST fit all of the rules not some of them
1 dam has thrown open class at least
2 litter mates are open class or better (not will be or could be)
3 she is a good sized bitch
4 good conformation and WELL looked after

then her race career is unimportant

ByronBet 10-16-2009 10:22 PM
