Why do we have so many horse races over 100, 1050 & even 925m.
When I first started betting these short races were for early two year olds. The TAB wants as many short races as possible to increase revenue, like the pokies. Tell the race clubs to scrap these scampers & make 1200m the minimum distance to make them a better punting proposition.

I think its also due to our current breeding operation. Everyone is trying to breed early running two year olds, this means they are bred for speed and shorter distances. Thus it has increased the amount of short races in the calendar.

Its the owners mentality thats affecting the race distances, owners are trying to win the Magic Millions Classic, Blue Diamond or Golden Slipper. When you breed for speed you have to supply the races for the demand.

I dont see there being longer races any time soon, maybe if the likes of Shocking and Americain get good foal amounts and bring exposure to stayers we will see longer races.

its because they dont have enough horses to fill up fields that require a decent horse to run 1200/1300 so they put it on for those sqibs who have a heart attack when they run 1200
