Interested in Peoples Thoughts!

The Stewards of Greyhound Racing Victoria on Monday 13th September, 2010 conducted an inquiry into an incident that occurred en route to the Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association on Monday 23rd August, 2010.
After hearing the evidence, Stewards charged Mr. Arvanitis with breach of GAR86(o) in that he did transport eight greyhounds en route to the Bendigo Greyhound Racing Association meeting on Monday 23rd August 2010, of which five were engaged to compete at that meeting, and by continuing to travel to the race meetiong when it became apparant of a significant fault with the trailers wheel, he acted in an improper manner which constituted misconduct.
After hearing all the evidence tendered, the RADB found Mr Arvanitis guilty as charged and issued the following penalties:
*A fine of $5,000
*Disqualification of his licence for a period of six months (3 months of which, to be suspended), commencing Monday 18th October 2010.

should have been 12 months and $10,000 he got off light imo cheers chub.

Gippy 10-20-2010 10:24 AM

The welfare of the dogs must come first!! 6 months and $5000 is a hell of a lot more more than a call to the stewards to say he has broken down and I bet they would have helped him get the dogs to the track on time and at worst he would have had to scratch!!! Stupidity at its highest! Probably right, he deserved more.

penny 10-20-2010 07:44 PM

probably right chub i bet if it had off been a crook wheel on his car he would have changed it asap double standards the rsole .

nickg 10-20-2010 07:55 PM

more will come out of it as its now a police matter

grv have punished him under there rules now its the police's turn and a jail term is possible but we do live in australia where the stupid get a slap on the wrist

Kyleigh 10-21-2010 02:04 AM

Pretty sure the police side of things has already been dealt with, strangely enough, for those who know me. I don't agree with the stewards actions at all, and by no means am I condoning what he has done, but had the media not been involved in this, nothing would have been done at all, they didn't care about the welfare of the animals they cared about their own asses and that was all

So what is your opinion on a suitable penalty???? What were the stewards meant to do???? Its not just their arses on the line, but the whole industry!! I think in hindsight if he's got half a brain he will be thankful that he got off so light. I find your opinion on the matter terribly immature as any decent member of society would be appalled that somebody could be as stupid as that!

Kyleigh 10-21-2010 04:45 PM

Immature? Lol like I said those who know me will be shocked that I disagree. Once again this is an integrity issue changing the rules to how they see fit, the rules are there for a reason. Yes the guy is a wanker yes it is a welfare issue, I wish the press would dig a little deeper and see that the same kinds of actions that DO NOT make the media hardly get a look in.

My point is the stewards Acted on a few photos there was noone there that was an eye witness at the inquiry, most of their info came because he was honest about it. Yet people can do similar things at the track and the stewards turn their heads

penny 10-21-2010 10:00 PM

who gives a rats its been dealt with move on .

Maybe in Tassie darling, but not over here!!! Maybe when you do get some decent stewards over there and stop running your racing like a picnic circuit then you will come to realize that unless we all act in a responsible manner all the time we mightn't have a sport at all!!!
Now before you jump up and down about what would I know about Tas racing?? I have some good friends that I race dogs with in Tassie so I know exactly what's been going on!
You take some Calf's or Pig's to the market in a stock trailer and drag it along by the axle and see what the RSPCA would do to you??
You obviously have some sort of connection to the offending Kennel, but i think you have come to the wrong place if you are seeking sympathy for them as its you against everyone else that has bothered to post!!!!!

Kyleigh 10-22-2010 02:33 PM

WTF??? I have no connection to that kennel at all, for one thing you are assuming that I am one of those people that treats dogs in that way and believe me you are well of the mark....my point is, why should it be in the media before something is done about it? that is absolute bs, and for your info it does happen over there, I know of one pretty big trainer who on the way to Horsham lost his whole trailer as it wasnt connected properly, it went down the bank and hit a tree, and they still put the bloody dogs in the races and even the stewards had a giggle so I am sorry, where was there any inquirery there, there wasnt one, maybe had it of hit the media they wouldnt have giggled so much and actually did something about it

cheyenne 10-22-2010 09:46 PM

kyleigh it hit the media as you say, so he got a sentance. i dont think he should have lost his leicence. trainers get court with prohibert substance an get a fine.

Kyleigh 10-22-2010 09:51 PM

That's the point I am trying to make, he is guilty of stupidity, but how do they justify someone getting done for drugging there dog for the second time in 4 months Nd all he got was a fine? That should have been a suspension maybe someone should let the media know when these things happen and then they might be penalized appropriately, then we might start getting some of the idiots out of the game!

Who cares how he got caught, as long as he did and was penalised for it!!!
BTW I'm not assuming anything, you asked for comment on the issue and then dissagreed with what everyone else said, I never once accused you of mistreating dogs.
As far as these stories from the past go, who cares nothing can be done now???? This one was handled the right way and I hope it has set a precedence for any future acts of dickheadness anywhere!!
I recommend that if you are unhappy with a way a certain issue was handled by stewards that you can take it further by writing to either the relevant control board or the minister for racing in that state!!!:)

Kyleigh 10-25-2010 10:53 PM

Clearly u can't read what is in front of u, maybe without disapproving eyes u should read it all again, not o ce did I have a dig at anyone for having an opinion, unlike some, I gave mine and they gave theirs, I am pretty sure that is what a forum is All about, I didn't make assumptions about u but u were quick to make them towards me, and yes u did insinuate that I was o e of those types of people.

It is an integrity issue, ghats the point apparently it isn't ok to put ur dogs in a situation where they may get hurt (mind u we put them in that situation everytime we put them around the track) but yet it seems that it isn't that important if u dope ur dog up to the eyeballs and Christ knows what that is doing to them, oh and FYI that report only came out last week as that was when the suspension started

Gippy 10-26-2010 01:10 PM

Please highlight where I insinuated that you are one of those "type of people"?????????????
I simply agreed with everyone else on the matter as well as the stewards and I would hazard a guess with 99% of anyone else who is aware of the incident! You cannot live in the past Kyleigh and compare acts of stupidity or negligence against one another, believe it or not I only have the future of our sport at heart and the sooner we cull the idiots out of greyhound racing then the better, wouldn't you agree?? I too have seen some horrific things happen at the races and the trials some have gone punished and some have not, what are we to do about it? Its the same in everyday life!!

Kyleigh 10-26-2010 03:20 PM

I agreed with it, just not the way that they went about it all, it shouldnt take for something to hit the media before something is done, if this didnt hit the media, all he would have gotten was a small fine, for the whole thing and that is the point....the reason they was so many pics and film footage of it is because the cops that pulled him up were the cops off the reality police show.....

I can compare incidents to each other and I will continue to do so as that is my job, I too am fully pasionate about the sport and moving forward cause if it keeps going the way it is going now, no we wont have one to bitch about anymore will we?

if more people who felt this way did jump up and down a bit more often then things would get done

Gippy 10-27-2010 11:57 AM

Well lets hope that the relevant Control Boards, Club Committee's along with committee members (even if newly elected) start leading by example and making these monkeys accountable for their actions as well as making sure the integrity of our sport is not compromised!!! If you care to contact me via PM I would only be too happy to give some issue's that I have at the moment!!:)
