Vacination Requirments
I have recently aquired a 22 month old dog that has been broken in but not yet named.
I have the registration papers wich state he is a bond x fortified belle I am wanting to race him so i no i need vaciens up to date, only thing is the previous owner did not pass on any vacine papers. He stated all vaciens upto the break in has been completed but i will need the last one b4 he can race. My question is...... Is this all i need to start racing him ( one last needle i think the c3 is the name) any info would be helpful Chers Sean |
You need to take him to a vet to get his 12 month booster needle.
It's not the same as what pups get at 6-16 weeks old, they also need to get another vaccination at 12 months (however most trainers don't bother doing it at 12 months, they tend to wait til the pup breaks in, see if it's any good to bother spending money to get it named) So to get your dog named, you will have to get a booster shot done first, the vet has to sign the back of the naming papers. (You don't need a vaccination card, as GRNSW only requires the vet's signature plus the sticker off the bottle which the vet will put on the paper) cheers |
And there is one more thing you will need to do once you get the registration paper back, you won't be able to race him until you take him to a marking steward to have him i.d the dog before he can be given his 'weight card'.
You can do that at most tracks, if you ask in advance, most stewards can do the job but usually you will need to be there at the track at least one hour before kenneling so as not to take the steward's time away from his official raceday duties. |
thanks so much for your help. i have seen that i need to have a vets signiture and i also see where the stewards id him. thanks for your info
cheers Sean |
No worries ;-)
Good luck with your new dog! P.S I take it you mean the dog has already been marked by a steward on the back of the paper? You still will need to do it again after the name comes back, as the papers will come without a weight card. You need to get a weight card before you can race him, and that means taking him to a steward again to be i.d'ed, then he/she will issue you a weight card with the dog's racing name on it. |
um im not sure.......... i have his rego papers that says he is out of bond and fortified belle his age and so on.......... i need to put in my name selections thats all i can tell you for now.
so does that mean i still only need that one peice of paper to take to the vet and the stewards? cheers Sean |
Hi,
You take the naming paper to the vet to get the vaccination and signature. If the dog has already been marked on the back of the form (ie drawing already made on the picture of greyhound) by a "marking official", then that's all you need to do, mail the papers to GRNSW. It'll take a couple weeks to a few weeks for the name to be selected and then the official registration paper will then be processed and mailed back to you. The dog is now officially named. But the paper won't come with a weight card, and you need one to be able to race the dog. So you check with a steward at your closest racetrack, find out if there is a steward who has some spare weight cards and can do the job. And once they issue you with a weight card, your dog is ready to nominate! It didn't used to be that way previously, weight cards always came with the registration papers but with the new rule changes and all that, they've recently bought in the rule (I think it was 1 or 2 years ago?) that says the dog has to be identified THREE TIMES... once at earbranding, once to get the naming done and the final time after it's been named. Bit silly isn't it! |
thanks again.
i think i have this right but will just ask incase. 1. dog needs to be vacinated and ear branded up to the age of 12 months ( or in this case ready to race) also registerd (as i have registration papers at home that need to be filled out for naming). 2. get dogs final c3 shot so that he is able to race 3. find steard to mark out the papers on the dog after i have his race name back. |
Okay bit of correction here ;-)
The dog would have been earbranded already before the age of 12 weeks anyway, to be able to get registered in the first place, so that's not a problem for you ;-) 1.) Dog needs to be vaccinated with a Booster shot (that's what we trainers call it when we take them to the vet lol) after the age of 12 months (no earlier) AND be marked by a Marking Official (who usually only will do it by appointment only and at certain places, so usually the trainer has to ring GRNSW to find out where is the closest place the marking official will go to) 2. Send naming paper away to GRNSW 3. When you get the naming paper back, arrange to see a steward at a racetrack for a weight card to be issued. 4. YOU'RE READY TO NOMINATE! Hope this makes things a bit clearer ;-) |
yeah that helps. i am as thick as a brick sometimes lol
i just want to get it all right the first time so i no how to approch it next time. that way no one gets to annoyed wih me. Cheers Sean |
At least people are willing to help you because of your attitude, most newcomers to the sport really stuff things up for themselves by acting arrogant and very touchy.
So you are doing the right thing, keeping your ears and eyes open and willing to learn. Good luck and hope you get your first winner soon! Oh and don't forget, loads of patience is a big requirement when owning/or training greyhounds! lol Some people may go years and through many dogs before they get a winner. I was very lucky lol my parents and uncle were trainers, so I learnt a lot training my first greyhound at the age of 16 years old, while still living with mum and dad. I remember my first dog very fondly, he was an ex Victorian non chaser world's slowest dog with many starts and only one win up the straight at Wentworth in Victoria. A local trainer was going to shoot him but decided he might be a good dog for me to learn on, at least that way I couldn't ruin a potentially good dog with my learning mistakes lol Anyway the dog ended up winning a local country race! and running third in a trophy final for me!! Didn't take long for me to get my first winner after getting my owner/trainer's licence too. |
that's an awsome story about your first dog..... i to just got given a closing argumen x mrs bouvier dog that is not a keen chaser hopefully this new breaker we are going to can get him running. i can only wait and see. i never want them to get a bullet so if h is no good for me i will offer him free to good home as i got him this way.
my second dog that i have is out of bond x fortified belle so should be good he is a big dog and really keen to go but apparently he is slow...lol... o well i hope ge chases i will be raped with that just watching him run will be cool. |
