Greyhounds and Heat
Traralgon greyhounds have been cancelled tonight because of the heat yet Warragul greyhounds are still on? I know Traralgon is a twilight meeting but down here (Morwell) we havent hit our high temp of the day till about 6.30pm which was 44.4 on Wed and 44.3 Thurs at about 6.30pm and todays forcast is for 44, so the dogs in the first couple of races a Warragul will be running in 44 degrees and even by the cup final and last few races it will still be in high 30's, all dogs running at Warragul will be arriving there in the hottest part of the day, so my question is how do they decide if the meeting is to be run or cancelled.

We as humans are in control of either keeping warm or keeping cool. Unfortunately greyhounds have to endure what us humans force them to do.They have no say. But most of us humans are kind to our dogs and wouldn't put our greyhounds through extremities. I would NOT race my dog in that sort of heat. But there are inhumane people who would. But thats their choice. Sorry for being blunt but I for one love my dog and there is no way known I would put him through anything that would hurt him.

Goulburn Race Meeting Time Change
Written by: GRNSW 30/01/09
Due to the extreme weather conditions expected tomorrow (Saturday 31 January 2009), The Goulburn Greyhound Racing Club has announced a change in starting time for tomorrow's meeting. The first race will now be held at 10am instead of 1pm as originally scheduled. Kenneling time will be between 9am and 9.30am. |
Here in Western Sydney reached temps of 42 degrees plus and was checking the dogs every half hour to make sure they where okay. Tomorrow is going to be another scorcher around the 44 degrees plus not looking foward to that at all. I just can't wait for the cool change to hit hear late tomorrow or early monday morning. regards Dougie
