Lol. A mate of mine owns a dog and it was winning trials by 8 lengths. Five starts later and its yet to place lol.

A mate of mine was offered to train a Pacer that was trialing great times at menagle park and winning all of his trials. That was about 12 months ago. He still has'nt won a race. He's had 12 starts.
A couple of years ago he had a share in a galloper which he paid $40k for a quarter share. He was a dud. Then in the middle of last year he bought a greyhound for $600 and he's had 3 wins 6 placings. He's now looking at getting another one. coops |
Hey it's only 16mths old lol if it's trialling good, it's capable of plenty of improvement. Could be city class, I don't know where it's been trialled or how good the dog is.
Im training a surf lorian dog, 21 mths old and still unnamed, was only trialling ok 4 mths ago but after an injury enforced spell of 1 month, has just started to "click" and is now trialling way way above city class times, Im getting real excited about him. Owner keeps telling me this is a potential Group dog as his half brother/sister have won Group races. From a group producer. Amazing what a big difference in times he is now running from 4 mths ago! Thank god I didn't sack him too early, I really was this close to just sending him back to the owner in disgust after 2 mths of trialling fairly ok times. (and not just in solo trials either.. been in full fields, won them easily coming from behind and sweeping past them despite copping early checks) Just had his name sent away this week! Whoo hoo! |
A good trainer will not really care what the dog has done to date! They will get the dog into their kennels, clean them up, get them checked and start from scratch. Your friend is better to pay the $ up front for a 6 week pre-train with a decent trainer and let them decide whether the dog has it or not! There are too many variables before hand,Is the dog sound? What is it being fed? What distance has it been trialling? etc
You only set yourself up for the fall if you say that this dog or that dog is going to be city class or has so much ability, I know in order to get someone to just take a dog sometimes you have to stretch the truth a little, but its better to hold on to your credability and not look like a goose if the dog dosn't live up to expectations! Good luck I hope it turns out a flying machine!!! |
How could such an innocuous posting and such as basic advert on behalf of a friend, instigate such replies. It seems clear to me that the whole idea was to "Phone Amanda .....", that is, for further information. Even in her follow up message, Lily said "Hey it's only 16mths old lol if it's trialling good, it's capable of plenty of improvement. Could be city class, I don't know where it's been trialled or how good the dog is". It seems to me that Lily's reference to "City Class" was only in the context of "who knows, he could be city class, I don't know, I know very little about the dog and how much he will improve". And Gippy as for your tirade, I can only think that you have confused Lily's advice to members about her own dog as being advice about her friend's dog which is offered to trainers.

What the F#@!!! Tirade????? What are you on mate?
|
Your the one who's confused Yup! I new perfectly well what was posted and was not for one minute having a go at anyone!!! I'm sorry Lily if you took my post as this other " glass half empty" view, I was only offering some advice and didn't mean to offend anyone! As I said, Good luck!

Gippy, I know what you are getting at, no offence taken :D I have been training dogs for over 20 years, my family have been involved in this industry over 30 years, so it's not like I am a complete novice when it comes to training dogs.
I have simply done a favour for a friend, who texted me a short message asking me if I knew anyone that was looking for a dog to train, and if people wanted more information, all they had to do was RING her. As for the Surf Lorian dog, I know how fickle fate can be, as I have had a few real promising types that didn't go on with it. So Im just keeping fingers crossed that he keeps improving because the way he has been running (I don't just look at trial times, I look at the overall behaviour and running style of the dog in a full field to gauge its ability) I would be extremely surprised if he doesn't win in town. I was offered the SL dog to train as a first option, as the owner was quite happy with the way I pre trained the dog for him at 12mths old before breaking in, and then again after breaking in. Fingers crossed! :D |
Yes, Gippy I do believe that I have misunderstood the motive of your message and therefore do sincerely apologise.
