Queen out of Paws
19 Sept, 2008.
QUEENSLAND champion Queen Lauryn will be scratched from the Group 1 Paws of Thunder heats at Wentworth Park in Sydney Saturday night after coming on season.
“This is very disappointing for all after Sasha (Queen Lauryn) has trialled the house down in the lead up to this race," syndicate spokesman Steve Hawkins said today.
"The same thing happened this time last year before the Vic Peters Classic.
“Tony Brett has worked so hard to get her back to the track after she performed below standard in the Nationals series and like us he is devastated.”
Queen Lauryn the Wentworth Park track record holder (29.44) raced on Nanderol for a period of time after breaking the Ipswich track record (30.01) and her form tapered off. It was then that connections took her off Nanderol.
"The Nanderol appeared to switch her off racing and she wasn’t the same on or off the track," said Hawkins. "Since then she had a short break and returned with two sensational trials breaking the Lismore 400m track record 23.85 (for the 2nd time) and then a blistering 22.31 at Albion Park over the 395m last Friday in the lead-up to the Paws on Saturday night.
“Surely this sends a message to authorities that more needs to be done to suppress seasons for bitches while racing. "Basically if Nanderol doesn’t agree with your bitch you are stuffed,” hawkins said.
“The disappointing part of this is the public will never see the best of Queen Lauryn in her prime, she is a freak.
"She holds two official track records and has broken four records over the shorts in trials at Albion Park, Lismore and Ipswich.
“Authorities have moved the goal posts mid game. I will be seeking other breeders and owners support to investigate legal action. "It's simply an unfair playground now,” he said.
“I can’t describe the way we and the Brett family feel at the moment. We believe she would have won the series and given the record another shake. We are gutted."
