Burt on the list as Warriors look around for new blood
October 11, 2009
The Warriors are believed to have Parramatta grand-final winger Luke Burt on their wish list.
The Auckland club contacted Burt's agent last month about the 28-year-old's contract status with the Eels.
He is off contract at the end of 2010 but could be released early due to salary-cap constraints.
The Warriors' recruitment and development manager, Dean Bell, was reluctant to comment about Burt yesterday but confirmed his name had been mentioned in discussions.
''We haven't been in contract discussions as such,'' Bell said. ''It's just a case that he is one of a number of players we have been looking at.''
Meanwhile, Tim Mortimer, brother of young Eels star Daniel, will train with the Eels' top squad after playing for feeder club Wentworthville this season.
''Tim has been invited to train and I'd be very happy if he joined me next season in first grade,'' Daniel Mortimer said.
The Mortimer clan, who own a winery in the state's Central West, had good reason to celebrate after the grand final despite the result, with their shiraz winning a gold medal at the Orange wine show.
