P.S I take it you mean the dog has already been marked by a steward on the back of the paper? You still will need to do it again after the name comes back, as the papers will come without a weight card. You need to get a weight card before you can race him, and that means taking him to a steward again to be i.d'ed, then he/she will issue you a weight card with the dog's racing name on it.
