And there is one more thing you will need to do once you get the registration paper back, you won't be able to race him until you take him to a marking steward to have him i.d the dog before he can be given his 'weight card'.

You can do that at most tracks, if you ask in advance, most stewards can do the job but usually you will need to be there at the track at least one hour before kenneling so as not to take the steward's time away from his official raceday duties.
