Post Danny Brereton Fined $2000

JOCKEY Danny Brereton was fined $2000 by Racing Victoria stewards on a misconduct charge for attempting to strike fellow jockey Dwayne Dunn after race two at Caulfield on Saturday.

Chairman of stewards Terry Bailey said Brereton's behaviour "could not be tolerated".

"You are a senior rider and should know better," he said.

Brereton, 43, who pleaded not guilty to a charge of attempting to strike Dunn, had a previously unblemished conduct record over 28 years.

"We're all human," was Brereton's only response when told of the penalty.

Earlier during the inquiry Brereton denied making contact with Dunn.

"I didn't touch his arm. There was a heated argument. We were both saying stuff and I said, 'Come here and say that'. That's when my hand went out," Brereton said.

Brereton and Dunn were engaged in a heated argument about 400m past the post in the New Gleam Handicap.

Stewards patrol film clearly shows Brereton reach out with his left arm in Dunn's direction as their mounts were side by side.

The incident was sparked by the behaviour of Brereton's mount Kapu Star, who hung in and checked Dunn's mount Fuduchonne halfway down the straight.

Brereton said Kapu Star was a nightmare to ride as he continually hangs in and stewards later banned the horse for a second time until it trials satisfactorily.

Dunn said he felt contact to the back of his arm and hip but he was unable to say if it was Brereton because the force came from behind him.
